Marlin Steel possesses several automated manufacturing tools, including automated steel punches that are capable of making hundreds of precisely-spaced holes in sheet metal in mere minutes. Thanks to the Trumpf metal punching machine, Marlin Steel can fill orders for precision-cut sheet metal forms quickly and with great precision. This metal punch doesn't get worn out or tired from repetitive motion, so the 10,000th piece of sheet metal cut using this machine will match the very first piece that was cut.

Metal stamping can create a myriad of unique items by stamping tons of custom met forms quickly and evenly. Here are some jobs a metal stamping machine are often used for:

  • Flattening. One of the primary functions of any press machine is to flatten objects. For wire forms, a metal stamping machine can flatten numerous pieces of metal wire quickly.
  • Swaging. This process reduces the diameter of a round object that is fed through the machine, often so that it can be fed into a tube or other opening more easily.
  • Piercing. Aside from merely flattening a part, a straight side press can also punch depressions and holes into solid metal objects.
  • Coining. A precision stamping process that takes its name from its initial use: to press metal into shaped coins. This process uses extreme pressure to force metal to conform to a die, which requires a high-tonnage press.
Any of these processes can be useful for the manufacture of a specific part for a wire or sheet metal basket. For example, with piercing and swaging, one metal form can have a hole cut into it to allow for a metal wire to be passed through, and the metal wire’s point can be narrowed slightly to make feeding the wire through the opening easier. This could help to facilitate the manufacture of hybrid sheet metal and wire mesh baskets more quickly.

  • With our automated metal stamping machinery, we can punch out dozens of custom sheet metal cuts in minutes. In the video to the right, you can see our steel punching machine hard at work as it rapidly punches precisely measured holes into the sheet metal. In fact, this machine can do much more than simply cut holes in metal.

A list of the tasks this machine can handle and the tools it uses include cluster punching, tool rotation, square tool nibbling, extruding and tapping, wheel forming, wheel deburring, wheel offset and multibend, among other functions.

Thanks to the consistency and speed of this machine's operation, thousands of identical parts can be formed each and every day from sheet metal plates.
